And not just any free lunch — free lunch from a popstar.
Sabatino's owner Sabatino Perotta told NJ Advance Media reporter Jeremy Schneider that SZA, a Maplewood native, called him and asked if he could buy lunch for local high schoolers at Columbia High School.
Around 11 a.m., high schoolers began showing up. Then, in droves to the Valley Street pizzeria.
Schneider shared a clip of the event to X.
Then, SZA — a Grammy Award-winning singer — showed up.
Perotta did not immediately return Daily Voice's request for comment, and it wasn't immediately clear why she made the kind offer. However, NJ Advance Media cites Perotta saying she was just giving back to her community.
